Order out of Chaos 13

Even with all this regimen in place, Plato could see that the system was prone to deteriorate. The magistrates would grow careless in their verdicts, the quality of the ruling stock would decline and would gradually yield to power and influence. It would become an oligarchy ruled be the few with their own interests and agenda. Those in control, though being outwordly respectable and dignified were inwardly motivated by power and greed. The gap between the rich and poor would widen and the few would amass unbelievable fortunes. Sounds a lot like our present day situation.
